Do This in Rememberance of Me

"And the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes."

Communion is one way we remember what Jesus did for us, in the breaking of His body and the spilling of His blood, to redeem us from eternal death. His sacrifice was the atonement for our sins and thus created a new covenant between us and God. Those who have accepted Jesus' sacrifice and call Him Lord, are seen as blameless in the eyes of God. This new covenant replaced the old one which called for the sacrifice of a spotless lamb to provide a temporary covering for sin. And while we partake of communion as a reminder of what Jesus has done, it also serves as a reminder that He conquered death and is coming back for us.
